Static analysis of 2D micropolar model for describing granular media by considering relative rotations

The micropolar continuum theory has attracted enormous attention for studying many mechanical problems specially when the microstructure effects (size scale) could not be ignored like granular materials. This enriched model refers to Cosserat-type theories which take into account independently rotational degrees of freedom (DOF) in addition translational ones. provides essential features media by taking additional DOF. In this study we investigate an efficient formulation nonlinear based on a new contribution relative micro rotations. Thus, novel rotation tensor is used as measure deformation classical strain and wryness tensor. Accordingly, orthogonal microrotation matrix considered with four admits opportune constraints. consequences proposed are then discussed aid numerical examples. To aim, several applications 2D plate specimens subjected in-plane loads performing finite element code variational formulation. Some key model, comparison one, illustrated sensitive analysis.
